Braised Pork Belly with Soy Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound pork belly, cut into cubes
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons dark soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cooking wine
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 4 slices ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 cup water

Directions:

  1. In a large pot, bring water to a boil and blanch the pork belly cubes for 2-3 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a separate pot, heat a small amount of oil and sauté the green onions, ginger, garlic, and star anise until fragrant.
  3. Add the blanched pork belly to the pot and stir-fry for a few minutes until lightly browned.
  4. Pour in the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, cooking wine, sugar, and salt. Stir well to coat the pork belly with the sauce.
  5. Add the water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1-1.5 hours, until the pork belly is tender and the sauce has thickened.
